Fire in MLIB
Campus Community,
Shortly after 8:30am, this morning, the electrical motor that drives one of the elevators in Meriam Library caught fire. The smoke from the fire activated the fire alarm. Because the fire was in the elevator shaft, the smell of smoke quickly moved to all floors. The Library was quickly evacuated and no injuries resulted from this incident. Chico Fire was able to extinguish the small fire and then purged the smoke from the building quickly. All occupants were allowed to return to the Library by 9:15am. Two of the elevators sustained damage and will remain out of service until repair.
This incident is a reminder to treat every alarm as valid, until proven otherwise, and follow your evacuation plan.

Conversations on Diversity: Troops to College, March 25
Student veterans represent a significant but often misunderstood addition to the rich diversity of CSU, Chico. Iraq and Afghanistan war veterans are enrolling at CSU, Chico in increasing numbers. These men and women have different perspectives, needs, and goals than students entering college from high school. The panel will discuss challenges faced by student veterans, difficulties of those injured in combat, and the strengths they bring to a learning environment. The media have told us that many of those who return have experienced brain damage or show the symptoms of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. There is much more to the story.
Please join us and take this opportunity to meet members of CSU, Chico’s Student Veteran’s Organization. We will be meeting in BMU 210 from 12pm - 1pm on March 25, 2009 and snacks will be provided.
For more information, please contact the Office of Diversity at 530-898-4764.
