The Real Charlie Wilson’s War
Sponsored by The Book in Common at CSU, Chico
This documentary is about Charlie Wilson, the Texas congressman who teamed with a CIA agent to provide arms for the Afghani freedom fighters against the Soviets, which resulted in helping lay the groundwork for the growth of the Taliban. A question to ponder: Why did the U.S. understand the need for economic reconstruction after WWII but fail to incorporate this practice in the political turmoil of the Middle East? The film features a number of CIA, Pakistani, and Russian military operatives along with live footage of the conflict.

Robin Indar was born in Fairfax, California, in 1973, the youngest daughter of a free-spirited mom and an underground cartoonist father. She began making art at an early age, working in every imaginable media until settling (mostly) into creating original, often functional works in mosaic and ceramic sculpture. Indar studied art at CCAC in Oakland. For several years she fronted the band Black Fork, which kept her busy touring, recording, and designing albums and promotional materials. She is currently taking time off from her studies at CSU, Chico to finish a series of commissions including one at Enloe Hospital’s new parking structure. Her list of completed projects includes public art, residential remodeling, mosaic portraiture, creating her own line of handmade tile called Rebel Tiles, and gallery showings. One of Indar’s recent projects was at Caper Acres in Bidwell Park, where she created dozens and dozens of hand-made tiles to adorn a large mosaic sea serpent—with five humps and a tail—that reaches out of water-like-flooring. You may find out more information at her website: www.robinindar.com.
