Humanities Center Gallery in April: Dean Kessmann's PLASTIC ON PAPER in the Trinity Hallway

April 1- 23, 2009
Plastic on Paper*
Dean Kessmann
Humanities Center Gallery, Trinity Hallway, 898-4642
Gallery hours: M-F 8am - 5pm
898-4642

Dean Kessman, associate professor of photography and coordinator of the photography Program at George Washington University, Washington, DC, writes about his show: “The images in this series document a relatively small selection of bags from a mound of plastic awaiting the recycling bin. Once they have served their original function, I reuse them for a variety of purposes; most recently, I have been using them to create art. This work is a reflection on these quotidian objects that permeate our everyday lives … [the] bags have been transformed … emptied, flattened, and shaped into fluid forms that hover within a depthless space.” More on Kessmann can be found at his website: www.deankessmann.com. He is represented by Conner Contemporary Art, Washington, DC.

*Part of the Humanities Center’s year-long theme, “Regarding Beauty.”
