The SFJAZZ Collective ensemble: Joe Lovano (sax), Dave Douglas (trumpet), Miguel Zenon (sax & flute), Robin Eubanks (trombone), Renee Rosnes (piano), Matt Penman (bass), and Eric Harland (drums) are an all-star gathering of the best jazz has to offer. Playing a collective tribute to legendary jazz pianist McCoy Tyner as well as performing original pieces from the band members, an SF JAZZ Collective concert is the ultimate jazz lovers delight.

Two Bluegrass Artists Perform in Laxson Auditorium in One Night
Join Chico Performances as they bring Laurie Lewis & Tom Rozum AND Rani Arbo and her group daisy mayhem to the stage at Laxson Auditorium for a night of folk and bluegrass that will be sure to have you dancing in the aisles, March 26 at 7:30pm.
Fiddler and bluegrass artist (twice named IBMA’s female vocalist of the year) Laurie Lewis is a Grammy award-winning musician who uses traditional bluegrass instruments to create a new sound — a little bit country, a little bit jazz, a little bit folk. Joined by band mate Tom Rozum on mandolin, guitar, and vocals, Lewis will create an evening of acoustic nirvana. In a double bill for the evening, Rani Arbo & daisy mayhem will perform their signature style of acoustic string swing full of bluegrass and Americana roots music.

$2,000 Undergraduate Research Opportunity Summer 2009
Are you an undergraduate student working on a special student-designed project who can use some financial support over the summer?
The Undergraduate Awards for Research & Creativity are an exceptional and unique opportunity for students to create their own projects under the guidance of a faculty mentor.
To qualify, students must have a cumulative GPA of 3.25 or above.
Interested students are encouraged to visit the Web site for an application and supporting materials.
- Up to ten summer stipends of $2,000 each are available to undergraduates (including graduating seniors) in all majors. Application deadline: Friday, 3/27/09.
- Two summer stipends of $3,500 each are available to undergraduates (including graduating seniors) in Chemistry/Environmental Science. Application deadline: Friday, 4/3/09.

Study Skills Workshops, March 23-27
After Spring Break, there are eight weeks left before finals. Students can come to the “Time Management” workshop and learn some planning techniques. Scheduling is the first step; “Avoiding” Procrastination is the next step. Come get some proven methods from one or both of these workshops.

Psi Chi will host speaker Dr. Martin van den Berg from the psychology department on the exciting topic of ‘SYNESTESIA’. Everyone is welcome to attend what plans to be a very informative lecture. Freecycle in April - Do Your Spring Cleaning over Break
Net Impact will be hosting a freecycle open for all students, faculty and staff. Do your spring cleaning and bring anything that you don’t want that is still in useable condition to the Free Speech Area on Wed., April 1, 15 and 29. We will accept any clothes, books, supplies, household & kitchen items, etc. Just drop them off and browse other items for things you need. Everything is free. Give what you can, take what you want. However, we will have an area of items that are for sale, we will sell your items for you for a small fee.
Avoid the landfill, let others reuse your old belongings, what’s old to you is new to someone else. Any leftover items will be donated to local charities.

Upcoming Plant Workshops from Herbarium
A series of workshops offered this spring, summer and fall will allow participants to learn about the world of plants. The Friends of the Chico State Herbarium, through the Northern California Natural History Museum, are offering six workshops beginning in March and ending in the fall.
Many of the workshops are appropriate for both beginning-level plant enthusiasts and those more advanced, and all are welcome.
Two of the workshops offered this spring are a soil ecology workshop where participants will learn about the importance of soils to healthy ecosystems, on Sat., March 21, and the Name That Wildflower workshop on Sat., March 28. Both of these include fieldtrips into Bidwell Park.

Investment in Concrete Program Reaches $1 Million
California State University, Chico’s Concrete Industry Management Program (CIM) has reached the $1 million mark in private support just three years after coming into existence.
CSU, Chico’s CIM program is one of five in the country and offers students a BS in concrete industry management from the College of Engineering, Computer Science and Construction Management (ECC).
The CIM Chico Patrons Executive Board reported the $1 million financial milestone to campus officials late last month.
