Women in Combat: Lioness Documentary Screening, March 25
Wed., March 25
7pm
BMU 304
Free
The CSU, Chico Student Veteran Organization, in partnership with the Associated Students’ Women’s Center, is presenting a free screening of the award-winning documentary about women in combat; Lioness. Lioness tells the story of a group of female Army support soldiers who were part of the first program in American history to send women into direct ground combat. Told through intimate accounts, journal excerpts, archival footage, as well as interviews with military commanders, the film follows five Lioness women who served together for a year in Iraq. Together the women’s candid narratives describing their experiences in Iraq and scenes from their lives back home form a portrait of the emotional and psychological effects of war from a female point of view.

Conversations on Diversity: Troops to College, March 25
Student veterans represent a significant but often misunderstood addition to the rich diversity of CSU, Chico. Iraq and Afghanistan war veterans are enrolling at CSU, Chico in increasing numbers. These men and women have different perspectives, needs, and goals than students entering college from high school. The panel will discuss challenges faced by student veterans, difficulties of those injured in combat, and the strengths they bring to a learning environment. The media have told us that many of those who return have experienced brain damage or show the symptoms of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. There is much more to the story.
Please join us and take this opportunity to meet members of CSU, Chico’s Student Veteran’s Organization. We will be meeting in BMU 210 from 12pm - 1pm on March 25, 2009 and snacks will be provided.
For more information, please contact the Office of Diversity at 530-898-4764.
