Special Anniversaries and Achievements Highlight 2009 Founders Week
California State University, Chico’s rich past, outstanding accomplishments and distinctive programs will be highlighted during the 16th annual Founders Week celebration taking place April 18-26, 2009. Founders Week is the special occasion each spring for the campus and community to celebrate CSU, Chico’s heritage and achievements.
Commemorating the University’s long and successful history will be events such as the Department of Computer Science’s 40th anniversary gathering on Saturday, April 18. Alumni from across the state and beyond are planning to attend the event and reflect on the department’s trailblazing role in computer science education. On Tuesday, April 21, the Chico State Alumni Association will host faculty and staff who are alumni for fun and refreshments at Sapp Hall, which is celebrating its 125th birthday.
Later in the week, the University will commemorate the 100th anniversary of Charter Day, the 1909 memorial event that is the precursor to Founders Week. On Friday, April 24, John and Annie Bidwell’s gifts that established the original Normal School—and the spirit of giving that continues as a hallmark of the University—will be honored in a ceremony in front of Kendall Hall.
